Llamajamas Wool Longies

Catalog > Cloth Diapering > Diaper Covers > Llamajamas Wool Longies

Long before disposables and rubber pants mothers knit wool longie pants for their children to wear as cloth diaper covers. Why wool? Wool is breathable which cuts down on diaper rash, wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture so the sheets stay dry even at night, wool treated with lanolin is water repellent, and wool has natural antibacterial properties so it resists odor. Wool truly is natures high-performance fiber!
Llamajama wool longies are designed to be all of the above - plus they're CUTE! We hand knit our longies from super soft, merino and alpaca/merino wool yarns. Our designs are all original and since each pair is made by hand, they are all unique.

Easy longie fit guide

We want it to be easy to choose your child's longies so we size our clothes based on standard children's sizes. All of our clothes are designed to allow room for growth so for the best fit we don't recommend sizing up.

Measurement guide:

Inseam: The inseam measurement determines how long the pants are. To measure your child's inseam, measure a pair of well fitting pants from the crotch to the bottom of the pant. Or, measure the child (with diaper on) from the crotch to the top of foot.

Rise: The rise tells you how high on the waist the pants will fit. You measure the inseam by measuring from the top of the diaper (near the belly button), through the crotch and around the back to the top of the back of the diaper. Our longies are designed to be high waisted to completely cover the average cloth diaper. If your child will not be wearing their longies as a cloth diaper cover you will appreciate the high waist as it keeps their back and tummy covered.

Waist/hips: Our longies have lots of stretch and come with an adjustable drawstring waistband.

Height/weight: The height and weight measurements given are based on average sizes. Since all children are build differently this is meant to be a helpful guide for choosing your child's size.

Wool Care

Caring for your Llamajama products is easy. One of the many benefits of wool is that it is not necessary to wash after each use.

Diaper Covers
One of the wonderful benefits of Llamajamas is that they do not need to be washed after each use. An unstained cover can be used approximately six to eight times between washes. A soiled diaper cover should be washed immediately to prevent a stain from setting. In between, simply leave the cover to dry. You can also brush your wool diaper cover with a lint brush to freshen it.

Clothing
You should only need to wash your wool sweaters once a season unless they get soiled. Soiled clothing should be washed immediately to prevent stains from setting. In between washing, simply brush your wool garment with a lint brush to freshen it.

Washing Instructions
We recommend washing your Llamajama wool products in Llamajama Tea Tree Wool Wash. It is a mild soap infused with Tea Tree and certified organic oils. To wash add 1 tsp per gallon of clean, tepid water. Let garment soak for ten minutes. Gently squeeze suds through the fabric taking care not to felt the wool. Rinse thoroughly in tepid water. Roll garment in a towel to remove excess water. Reshape and dry flat out of direct sun or heat.

Lanolizing Instructions
Adding lanolin back into wool helps it to repel moisture and not to leak. Llamajama 100% Pure Lanolin is a liquid specifically formulated for Llamajama products. Lanolizing your Llamajama is easy. Simply stir ¼ teaspoon into a gallon of clean, tepid water. Soak your Llamajama garment inside out for about ten minutes. To remove excess water gently roll it in a towel. Dry flat out of direct heat and light.

Storage
Wool is meant to be used and loved often. It is best not to store your wool for longer than a season. If you decide to store your wool as a keepsake, thoroughly wash and rinse your garment to remove all oils. Make sure the wool is completely dry. It is best to keep your woolens in an airtight container or cedar chest. Moth balls and cedar will help discourage pests. Never store your woolens in an attic or a basement as the extreme temperature changes will damage wool.
